Born and raised in Invermere, BC, Ryan Bavin received his first camera for his twelfth birthday while on
a backpacking trip with his family. He has been taking photos ever since. Ryan is also certified as a
Hiking Guide by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. For the last ten years he has averaged
50 days per summer season leading people in the backcountry of southeast British Columbia. Bringing
his camera along while working as a guide allows Ryan the opportunity to capture the nature, flora,
and fauna in and around his home of the Columbia Valley.
In 2008, Ryan won the Mountain Landscape category of the Banff Mountain Film Festival’s annual
photography competition. Through guiding, he has worked in the field on assignments and workshops
with prominent photographers from publications such as Canadian Geographic, as well as nationally
renown artists, represented by prominent galleries across the country. Ryan is well known as an artist
in glass and his studio is located in Invermere.
